19 March 2017 - Performers' Afternoon
Congratulations to all involved in today's inaugural JMCO Performers' Afternoon. What a depth and range of talent we have in our orchestras! We were treated to a polished set of performances of a wide variety of music by members of all our orchestras, from solos to a quartet. Some had to face the challenge of making their first appearance outside an orchestra, all had prepared carefully and gave us a professional but fun afternoon, all enthusiastically organised for us by Allan and Pam. Something we will no doubt want to build on in the future!

The following new officers were elected: Chair - Tony Stanley, Secretary - Pam Toft, Treasurer - Fiona Ward.
In addition, Anna Tiplady, James Arkell, John Hopkins, Irena Emberson, Mie Steward, Roanne Paul and Sarah Beazley were 're-elected' and five new candidates: Richard Ashworth, Beth Donnelly, Pauline Oultram, Michelle Wood and Richard Wright were accepted onto the committee.
The full minutes of the meeting will be available to read on the web and Facebook in the near future.

11 Mar 2017 Annual General Meeting
The 2017 AGM will be held on 11th March 2017 at 10.30 am at Barrow Village Hall, between the Intermediate Orchestra and the Main Orchestra rehearsals so that not too much playing time will be lost.
Click here to see the minutes of the last AGM
There are two main items on the agenda:
WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR NEW COMMITTE MEMBERS, ESPECIALLY AN ASSISTANT TREASURER. If you can spare some time and energy to help with this, please speak to Roanne or Sarah Beazley.
Please use the following links to view copies of the current constitution and the Making Music 2015 model. The main reason for proposing the change is because it is thought that the second object of the Making Music model sits better with the aims/objects of JMCO than the current one. The Charity Commission have already given prior written consent to the changes. If the changes are adopted by the members at our AGM then we can submit this to the Charity Commission for final approval.
Hard copies of the constitutions will be available to look at during rehearsals.

Presentation to our Outgoing Chair, Roanne Paul In recognition of the outstanding contribution that Roanne Paul has made in the role of Chair, Allan Wright made a presentation to her at the Christmas Concert on behalf of all of the orchestras. Roanne took over as Chair of JMCO in 2013 and since then has steered the Orchestra through a number of changes: registration with the Charity Commission, registration with HMRC, formulation of all of the various policies (Health and Safety, Data Protection, Safeguarding etc), driving through the process with Making Music and BBC Radio 3 for the "Adopt a Composer" scheme (Janya by Chris Hutchings at Summer Concert and to be broadcast on R3 on 23rd January), overseeing all of the various other neccesary tasks for any large voluntary organisation, liaising with our Music Director and all the while making sure that she knows all members of the Orchestra on a personal level. A truly remarkarkable leader, we have been lucky! |

Christmas Concert at St Mary Without the Walls, Chester
Jan Modelski does it again! - One audience member was overheard to say: "This was the best concert yet and everyone looked as if they were really enjoing it. I wish I could play in one of these orchestras". See for yourself on our photo gallery page.
A long navy blue scarf was found whilst tidying up after the concert, probably belonging to someone in the orchestras. Tony Stanley has it and will bring it to the first January rehearsal.

Changes to Issue of Music
This term there are going to be changes to the way we issue out music parts to players. We now have volunteers in each section who will hand out music to every player, in a folder along with a pencil. The parts may be taken home for practice and any markings on the parts must be made lightly in soft pencil only. These parts must be returned, in the folders, after concerts (or before, if you are either not playing in the concert or know you are going to be absent from rehearsals for a while).
There may be occasions where copies will have to be used; these should be returned in the same way.
It is hoped that this change to the distribution of parts should help us to get the rehearsals started on time!
