Annual General Meeting
Our next Annual General Meeting will be held on Saturday 13th March 2021 on Zoom. 
Members will receive an email with further details by the end of February, let us know if you don't receive this.

Performers' Afternoon
Following on from the success of previous Performers' Afternoons, we will be holding our next one of Sunday 28th March at 2:00pm.
Performers are invited to submit a recording which will form part of a concert for members.
Each performance should be no longer than five minutes. It can be solo, with other people in your household/bubble or with a backing track.

Our Summer Concert will on Saturday 17th July 2021 at St Mary's Creative Space, Chester.

Coronavirus - Covid 19
Under current Government guidelines, we are currently unable to rehearse but look forward to starting again once it becomes safe again. The committee will contact existing orchestra members by email when we have plans for re-starting.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RAY
On Saturday John and all of the orchestras joined together to wish Ray Gandy a happy 90th birthday.

He' s pictured here with the other members of the Introductory Orchestra which has been graced by his charm and wit (and, of course, his cello playing) for many years!

Sunday 17th November - Delemere Walk
The walks in Delamere Forest, which had to be postponed due to weather, have been re-scheduled for Sunday 17th November. See Pam for more details.

Saturday June 15th and 29th 2019 - Change of Rehearsal Venue
The orchestra rehearsals will be held up the road in Barrow CE Primary School, CH3 7HW on 15th and 29th June as Great Barrow Village Hall is unavailable.

Sunday May 19th 2019 - Performers' Afternoon
Non-performers will be very welcome to come and show support for the brave performers and  refreshments are all free! Hope to see you there!

Saturday May 11th 2019 - Guest Conductor
We will be having a guest conductor, Adam Kornas for the rehearsal on the 11th May. Adam has a Masters degree in conducting from the Royal Northern College of Music and in the last three years has assisted conductors Juanjo Mena, Gianandrea Noseda and John Storgards at the BBC Philharmonic and Vasily Petrenko at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. We're in for a treat!

January 5th 2019

Saturday 20th October 2018 - Marco Bellasi
The Orchestras were very privileged to have Marco Bellasi as a guest conductor this week. Marco brought his Italian charm but also his very keen ear and we all learnt a lot. A wonderful morning's rehearsal.

 Sunday July 15th 2018 - Concert
As well as our usual rehearsal on Sat 14th July there will also be a short rehearsal on Sunday afternoon. Main orchestra set up and brief rehearsal will be at at 2pm.  Introductory and intermediate orchestras, please arrive at 2.30 for set up and brief rehearsal. (Anybody who can help unload the van and set up stands, please come to the Town Hall at 1.30pm.) We will finish set up and rehearsal by 4pm at the latest. Everyone needs to return at 6pm for the concert which starts at 7pm. Normal dress code applies (black and white and any colour accessories) except ties not required, assuming it will still be very warm.
Parking for the concert
Use the Linenhall car park (just off the ring road, opposite The Crown Plaza Hotel. It has been confirmed that the car park is free and does not close at all, whatever the sign says! However, please look up alternatives just in case it is full.
Tickets and advertising posters for the concert
Tickets for the concert will be available before July 15th and can be bought from the Registration desk in the near future. Posters too, advertising our concert, will also be available for all members to distribute as and where they think appropriate eg. libraries, village halls, supermarkets etc.

Banging on my Drum
Move over Lou Reed, Gerry's got a new drum kit for the concert on the 15th. Many thanks to Waitrose who contributed £200 towards the new kit

Saturday 12th May 2018 Rehearsal
The rehearsal will take place at Barrow Village Hall, as usual, not the village school as announced last week.

Mark  Thompson Runs London Marathon
Congratulations to Mark Thompson for completing the London Marathon on Sunday.
Photo shows Mark looking very cool at 23 miles, going on to finish in 5hours 5mins. So far he has raised £3,250 for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd at Backford.
Really well done Mark. We are very proud of our fantastic horn player and Mark is so grateful to all who supported him

There will be no orchestra on Sat. 31st March or Sat. 7th April. Have a good holiday.

Saturday 10th Feb 2018 - Spring Concert
A big thank you to every one of you for making our concert on Saturday run so smoothly and be such an enjoyable experience for players and audience alike. It was a great team effort and I’m sure everyone much appreciated all your enthusiasm and hard work.

Performers Afternoon Cancelled
Dur to the severe weather forecase for tomorrow, the performers afternoon has been cancelled. Hopefully, it will be re-organised in the New Year so watch this space!

Christmas Break
The last session of the year will be Saturday 16th December and the orchestras will start up again on Saturday 6th January.

Saturday 21st October 2018 - Guest Conductor for Intermediate and Main Orcehstras - Marco Bellasi
What a special treat it was for the Intermediate and Main Orchestras to be conducted by this young aspiring conductor from Milan. Marco was encouraging, energetic and found many ways of helping us improve our sound. We all worked very hard but the experience was extremely enjoyable. See the photo gallery for pictures.

Marco has just finished his appointment as Junior-Fellows conductor at the RNCM in Manchester. In addition to the RNCM orchestra, he has worked with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, the Hallé Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra and Ensemble 10/10, the official chamber orchestra of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

He has performed with many amateur orchestras in the north of England such as Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra, Stockport Symphony Orchestra, Gorton Philharmonic and Amaretti Chamber Orchestra and some of you saw him conduct the Chester Philharmonic's recent Sibelius concert. He is also Musical Director of the Opera Viva amateur opera company in Liverpool.

Orchestra Performer's Afternoon - 10th December 2018
The orchestra is having a performer's afternoon on Sunday 10th December at 2:00pm. This is a great opportunity to perform in a warm and welcoming atmosphere and everyone is welcome. Full details are here. If you want to get involved please complete the application form here.

Modelski Orchestras Play Caldy Valley
Eat your heart out Glastonbury! Caldy Valley was 'the' venue this year. Fantastic concert. Congratulations to everyone involved and happy summer holidays.
